Ben is a fifth year linguistics and FNEL student. As an undergraduate research assistant, he works specifically with Haíɫzaqvḷa (Heiltsuk) revitalization through the development of online digital tools, mobilization of archives, and technical/learning support for the urban Heiltsuk community in Vancouver. He also works as a production assistant at the UBC School of Journalism related to endangered language awareness.
Ben’s ongoing interests include language policy and rights, pedagogy (ie meaning-making programming), and (re)vernacularization regarding both local Indigenous communities and languages as well as within international contexts.
He is happy to discuss the FNEL major, polysynthetic grammars, and more in person; just stop by Buchanan E Room 264.
